Premiership coach Paul Roos has not completely dismissed the idea of applying for the vacant West Coast Eagles coaching position.
Roos, who boasts a distinguished coaching record with over 200 games at the Sydney Swans and a two-year stint with the Melbourne Demons, has remained active in the AFL through media work since stepping down from coaching.
Despite being in Perth recently, Roos confirmed he has not had discussions with West Coast officials. He playfully mentioned his visit was partly to “interview” for the Eagles role but expressed skepticism about receiving a call.
While Roos has not outright ruled himself out of contention, he is curious about who the Eagles will consider for the role. He emphasized his current focus on media work but acknowledged that a senior figure could be beneficial if the team hires an inexperienced coach, like former premiership player Ash Hansen, provided that the new coach is open to such support.
Roos’ experience includes leading Sydney to its first premiership in 72 years in 2005 and participating in the coaching selection panel for North Melbourne in 2020.
